How Put Bog Seat Down
The Situation
Seat is up. Seat should be down. Between these two states: man, and roughly 1.5 seconds of effort. Man does not cross the gap. Why. We investigate.
Why Man Brain Think This Is Hard
Task takes one second. Brain does not file one-second tasks. Brain only see two folders: Do Now (Big) and Later (Forever). Seat is small, so brain put it in Later. Later is not a real place. Later is where socks go. Man is not lazy. Man is just running a brain with no folder for small good things.
Risk Assessment
| If man not do it | What happen |
|---|---|
| 2am partner sits on cold porcelain trap | Trust: damaged |
| Partner narrates the seat to other humans | Reputation: cave gossip |
| Every un-downed seat remembered, none forgotten | The ledger grows |
Cost / Benefit Analysis
| Put Seat Down | Leave Seat Up | |
|---|---|---|
| Time cost | 1 second | 0 seconds |
| Energy cost | one (1) finger | none |
| Result | peace | the ledger |
Man look at table. Math is not close.
Man Do This
- Finish wee.
- Look down. Confirm: seat is up.
- Lower seat with hand. Gentle. Not slam. Slam is a new argument. (See: How Not Slam Bog Seat.)
- Lid too, if man is evolved creature.
Man Do Not Do This
- Do not "do it next time." Next time is Later. We covered Later.
- Do not kick seat down with foot. Foot is dirty. Now lid is dirty. Man made new problem to avoid old problem. Classic man.
Reward
Partner enters bathroom. Nothing happens. Nothing happening is the prize. No cold trap. No ledger entry. Man did civilisation, and nobody even knew. This is what good men do. Invisible work, no parade.
Brain Trick. Bolt it to a thing brain already does: flush, then seat down. One move, not two. Hand is already there. Make peace automatic.
Man did the thing. Send this to a man who has not yet done the thing.
