There are 1.4 billion insects for every human
The Royal Entomological Society says there are approximately 1.4 billion insects for every person on Earth. Man read this and need small sit down.
That means while we are getting on with tea and bins and assorted nonsense, the planet is absolutely teeming with tiny life. Very busy little business, all the time.
It is a proper humbling number. We like to think we are in charge, but the maths says we are mostly sharing the place with an enormous crowd of small creatures.
Tiny practical challenge: next time you go outside, try to spot three different insects before you get distracted. If you only see one, still counts. Brain like this.
So yes, the world is a bug crowd. Not a bad thing, really — just a reminder that Earth is never quiet, even when we are.
